Renowned interior designer Fredi Zimmer is surprised when outdoorsman Max Greene, owner of Greene's Outdoors, hires Fredi to revamp his rustic cabin in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Fredi is an out-and-proud metro male whose contact with the outdoors is from his car to the doorway of the million-dollar homes he remodels, and Max is just too hunky for words.
When Max comes on to Fredi, the designer can't imagine why. But he's game to put a little spice into Max's life, even if it's just in the colors and fixtures he'll use to turn Max's dilapidated cabin into a showplace. Who can blame a guy for adding a little sensual pleasure as he retools Max's life visually?
Max, for his part, is grateful when Fredi takes him in hand, both metaphorically and literally. Coming out is the most exciting and wonderful time in his life, despite the conservative former friends who think they're saving him from sliding into hell.
Redesigning Max Foothills Pride Stories Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Pat Henshaw David Ross Dreamspinner Press LLC Books
Part of Pat Henshaw’s “Foothills Pride” series, “Redesigning Max” is a charming and well-crafted love story about the burgeoning community of gay folk in the Sierra Foothills to the east of San Francisco and Sacramento. The series of interconnected stories focuses on couples, but puts them in the larger context of the fictional town of Stone Acres, California. In “Redesigning Max” we are reintroduced to Fredi Zimmer, nationally known interior designer and lifelong friend of Jimmy Patterson. Although barely 30, Fredi is a player, and a flamboyant character. So imagine his surprise when Max Greene, a laconic, tall drink of water who embodies the lumberjack archetype of so many of Stone Acres’ longtime residents.
Seems like Max wants Fredi to remodel his late uncle’s truly horrendous, but beautifully situation, hunting cabin. More puzzlingly, the close-mouthed Mr. Greene seems to be sending confusing singles to Fredi.
Like her first “Foothills Pride” book, Henshaw gives us sweet romance, generous character development, and enough homophobia-driven angst to make us realize how much we care for Fredi and Max.

Redesigning Max Foothills Pride Stories Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Pat Henshaw David Ross Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews
Oh I felt so sorry for Max the day he met Fredi. The big lug didn't know how to cope with someone so blatantly flamboyant. Fredi is adorable and attracted to Max in the biggest way, but getting Max to open up, talk and share about what he wants for his remote cabin, is like pulling teeth. Because yes, Max has got in touch with Fredi because the little man is a well-known interior designer, and Max - well, he thinks he is ready for a revamp.
In Fredi's eyes (and that is the POV of the story) Max is a gorgeous, yet clueless hunk.
"No one said handsome equalled personable, right?"
"He was surprised to find he has such a physical reaction to Max. In his own words his previous liaisons with men were based on the fact that they both showed up. But he’s been told more than once that Max is straight, so he tries to keep things professional."
Jimmy and Guy are really amazing supporting characters. When there is a problem at the bakery, they are right there with their own brand of advice and good cheer. Boner is amazing, you have to read the book to find out that story. Max has to contend with the locals finding out he was gay.
"Son, I just wanted to say that your daddy would be real ashamed of you letting this homosexual turn you like he did..."
And that was just at breakfast. This is a perfect book. It's light-hearted, yet it deals with some serious issues. Fredi and Max are adorable together - the more they learn about each other, the more suited they are. My only complaint, and it's a tiny one, is that I would have loved to have known a bit more from Max's POV. But Fredi's style is so outrageous, so funny - like the finger licking incident - that it really doesn't matter. The sex in this book is implied not described, so what you are left with is fun, sweetness and a touch of sass. An excerpt is provided for the next book, and I for one will be signing up for it.
I thought this book was just okay. I liked the characters and the storyline but there was no depth. Just when I felt like I was getting to know one of the characters, we were ripped out of the scene and on to the next.
Also, the sex scenes were completely skipped. They are just glossed over so you know they took place but no detail is given. I think more detail about that part of the relationship (especially someone having sex with a man for the first time) would have helped.
Great read! Interesting story and likable characters dealing with real life.
Loved this book ! Seeing Max and Fredi get together then continue to grow, was a wonderful ride. Very good book,
This may be my favorite MM book of all time! The characters are extremeley well drawm and three demisional. Great plot. Beautiful writing. Others have written a synopsis, so I won't add to them. I got so involved with the Foothills Pride atmosphere, I could almost see the hills and smell the trees! Powerful imagery. Wonderful supporting characters, fully drawn and interacting with the main characters throughout the book. I was actually saddened when I came to the end, hating to leave that great community. But . . . then I discovered that there were two more books in the Foothills Pride series. I had only stumbled across book #2. So, I immediately order the other two books and read them straigh through back to back. What's most interesting is that the characters that lead in one book travel through the others. I found this uniquely satisfying and an inspiraltion on the part of the author. I can only add this DO YOUSELF A FAVOR AND BUY THESE BOOKS. And, don't mind the less that five star reviews, as I think these readers are used to (and like) what I can only call quasi-porn!!!! All in all, this is a fantastic read.
This was the most unusually written story I have read in a while. There was nothing unexpected or surprising in the story itself, but the friendly characters were charming and likable, whereas the haters in town were despicable. The story was nicely developed, although I did think that Max's quick and complete acceptance of Fredi's outrageousness was a bit unbelievable. (This was a conservative town and Fredi was like a pink elephant in the room wherever he went. Max was in the closet and never had a gay experience.) However, their courtship was endearing and Max's laid-back attitude was a nice counterfoil to Fredi's excitable nature. The little surprises throughout the story of Freddi's and Max's backgrounds made for a very enjoyable book.
